Internet and multimedia technologies have revolutionized the way people can learn German on their own. Previously, the most you could look forward to beyond a book of lists and quizzes was the occasional audio or video cassette. Searching online, however, shows the wide range of new resources being made available to consumers. Now, a German course can include a host of learning tools, interactive media, and even live conversation that turns your computer into an immersive language lab.

When trying to find the right package, you should look for how the materials go beyond what you could get in a book or even audio course. Just about any German instruction package will have books, lessons, glossaries, grammar charts, vocabulary lists, and even audio samples. But you should wait until you find a company that is invested in using the latest technology to be sure that you are getting real value for your money.

Any up-to-date German course should encourage you to learn by including a number of interactive software packages and even games. Studies have shown that you retain vocabulary better if you learn it in a dynamic environment instead of just memorizing lists of information. You want a piece of software that encourages you to think about what you know instead of just recall it. This is particularly true in German since it is just as important to know how to manipulate your vocabulary (declining nouns and adjectives, conjugating verbs, etc.) as it is to know the basic dictionary definition.

Good software packages should also allow you to organize what you know in a number of ways like designing your own flashcards, adding custom pictures and notes, etc. The best German courses allow you to incorporate these notes into the games so that your review is truly personalized to your own style of memorization.

You should also look for a package that combines speaking, writing, and reading, since neglecting any aspect of using a language will undermine your work. A nice combination of reading and listening exercises is best, ideally where you can switch back and forth in order to keep yourself on your toes.

Perhaps most important, however, is that you find a German course that allows you to make use of the internet’s interactive capabilities. Any course that encourages an online community in forums or internet chatting is a real plus since you can communicate in real time with other learners and even native speakers. Some of the best German courses even offer a staff of online tutors who are there to help you not only with software problems, but also any language questions you might have as well.

All of this might seem like a lot to ask of a single independent German course, but technology is constantly raising the bar on what you should expect from foreign language instruction materials. Wait to purchase a package until you find one that will make sure you use your time and effort in the most efficient manner possible to help you reach your goal of learning German.

Aside from the fact that there are many German speakers who comprise the e-commerce, business and industrial world, there are a large number of the citizens of mainland U.S who are Germans originally from Germany. This is one of the main reasons as to how the German language have grown and expanded its popularity among native English speakers.

But it doesn’t end there, there are many more reasons why the German language has been learned and is still being learned by many people. Despite the demands for bilingual individuals towards career boost reasons, mostly; personal preferences of interested learners of learning the German language is evident and it’s not only because Germany is a great place to visit but because the German language have had many contributions in the field of research. This makes it adamant for both graduates and undergraduates to learn the language.

Regardless of this, there are still a number of people who find it difficult to adapt to and speak the German language. There could be several reasons as to why this is the case with some people, no matter how interested and willing they appear to be in learning German. The good thing about this day and age is that, there are a number of remedies, not to mention natural approach to learning a foreign language without so much problems.

One way is to use memory improvement techniques. A technique is called Mnemonic and a branch of this is called the Association method. It is a very popular and effective memorization and learning approach especially with foreign languages. This of course, does not exempt German.

With Association, the words that are learned by the student goes hand in hand with an object or anything that is familiar to the student. For example, if thinking about the number elf which means eleven in English immediately brings you a thought of eleven elves; you have successfully made an association of two different words – one is German and the other, English.

This is a simple technique but it helps a person learn German words and other foreign languages faster.

Here’s another one. Bett is bed and Braun is brown.

Do these words have almost the same spelling? Yes they do. Although different in pronunciation, the German and English languages came from the same language lineage. There are words which have translation from German to English and some words have not even been translated at all. These words are still used today by English speaking people around the world.

This just proves that the idea of learning the German language is possible. Even the idea of memorizing the complete language can happen no matter what age you are right now. You read it right; you can learn the German language anytime. Children are not the only ones who can learn and memorize a completely strange language. Although it may not be entirely too easy for adults to learn compared to children, the brain works completely the same.

Online sources for learning different languages are popular nowadays but you don’t want to spend your money on inaccurate software learning programs issued today by many language-learning websites. Before you join the club of learning German enthusiasts, get as many information as you can regarding the software program.

Another reason why learning German is easy it’s because in memorization, different methods can be used. You can use a CD to learn German lessons while you jog or cook dinner. You may also watch German movies and listen to the dialogue and take down notes of the words you don’t understand. But of course, in learning your main lessons, you can memorize the words easily by linking the words together in one image or situation.

A man rises up early every morning. His dog wakes him up everyday and to return the favor, he gives his dog spinach bone as he tells the dog to “spin it” to give the dog an idea that the treat is for him. Did you spot the words? In the example given above, we used the word spinach from the English language and linked it within the same situation to the German word Spinat by putting in the phrase “spin it” for easier recognition. Go ahead, try another one, pick a word and picture them in one idea. You’ll see how easy for you to remember it.

From September 20 thru October 5, 2008, Munich, Germany will once again hold Oktoberfest. For the pleasure of eloquating the multitude of drinks and food offered during the 16 days of the event, learn German online.

Oktoberfest will once again be held in Munich, Germany from September 20 thru October 5, 2008. For the excitement of eloquating the plethora of drinks and food available during the 16 days of the festival, learn German online.

Dishes and Food

The plentiful types of “wurst” (German sausages) are never far behind when you think of Oktoberfest. Beyond the usual frankfurter sausage, you will enjoy the bockwurst (chicken, turkey, lamb, pork with parsley, chives, white pepper, paprika, and salt), knackwurst (beef or pork with fresh garlic), and the bratwurst (veal, beef, and/or pork). To avoid making a fool of yourself, learn German to be able to speak the German monikers of these delicious sausages.

You’ll also get the opportunity to try the many kinds of spatzle, or noodles, the ideal accompaniment to beer. Common ingredients for the spatzle are various spices, flour, milk, eggs, and salt. Sample the cheese noodles with fried onions, the kasespatzle. These are so scrumptious that learning German, if only to show your appreciation, is a must.

German delicacies such as Apfelpfannenkuchen (apple pancakes), sauerkraut (fermented cabbage), and hendl (roasted chicken) need to also be tasted. And before you assume you need to not learn German for these, think again when you get to the beers.

Beers and Wines

More than anything else, Oktoberfest is famous for the plethora of beers and wines served in its 14 tents. You’ll be able to differentiate each one with a passable grasp of the language.

With high carbon dioxide levels, the sekt is made fizzier than most sparkling wines. Find the Deutscher Sekt if you know your wines well. Or, you can go for sekt formulated from Riesling, Pinot gris, and Pinot blanc grapes for that extremely special occassion.

German wheat beer can get you drunk. There are many kinds, like the traditional and unfiltered Hefeweizen, Kristallweizen (crystal wheat), Dunkelweizen (dark wheat), and Weizenstarkbier (strong wheat beer), to mention a few. You should learn German as quickly as you can, lest you confuse one with the other; the monikers hint at the alcohol strength – the darker the wheat component, the higher the alcohol levels, usually.

Most of all, get drunk on the marzen (pale lager), a specially-brewed Oktoberfestbier. There are numerous more kinds of wines and beers served on the Oktoberfest, with the Weinzelt tent serving as many as 15 wines!

Obviously, you do not have to study German to appreciate Oktoberfest. But if you want to make the most out of the experience, it is definitely a good start.

Of course, you need not study German to enjoy Oktoberfest, meet new people, dine on good cuisine, and drink bacchanalian pleasures. Still, it won’t hurt to learn German free to make yourself heard over the noisy joy that the Oktoberfest is.
