Step 1
Think of a language that you would be interested in. Don’t pick one that just sounds like it will be easy. If you chose one that sounds easy, but you are not interested in the language, it will be hard for you to learn.
Step 2
Get a Dictionary that translates from English to whatever language you want to learn.
Book mark the site: http://www.Babalfish.com. It will translate most words from English to several other common languages.
Step 3
Get some flash cards of the language you want to learn. You can also get some 3/5 cards and make your own.
Carry them with you wherever you go. If you are stuck in traffic, waiting in a long line, or whatever reason, you have free time, pull out the flash cards and study.
I have met a few women, because they noticed I was studying my German flash cards.
Step 4
Get a book on the language you are interested in. I have the book: Complete Idiots Guide to Learning German. It is a good book.
You can also find tons of other books out on learning languages. Maybe go to a college book store and find a text book.
Step 5
Order the Rosetta Stone program. I haven’t tried it yet myself, but people say it is a good program.
Step 6
You have to devote a lot of time to studying a language if you intend to learn it. Try studying a couple of hours a day.
Step 7
Make friends with some people who are fluent in the language you want to learn. Have them help you out.
Step 8
After studying for a while, you should pick up on the language well enough to test it out on some people who speak it all the time.
Go to the bars or something and talk to people who have an accent in the language you are learning. If they say they speak that language, then go ahead and try it out.
Maybe even take a trip to a country where they speak it.
