verbal practice.  If one can travel to a German-speaking nation and become immersed in the culture, listening to the locals speak it and practice speaking it back, then he or she will learn how to speak German relatively quickly.  Exchange programmes, where you become involved in a family or community are great ways of learning the language, as your companions speak the language around you all the time.

If however you have no opportunity of visiting a German-speaking nation, then try find someone you know who speaks the language with whom you can learn and practice, or even someone with whom you can talk online.

A German teacher is a great help, but it is obviously best if the teacher is a native German-speaker, as he or she will know the natural and correct accents to place on words.  But other ways of hearing German as spoken by Germans is to listen and work through an audio CD of it, to speak online with German-speaking people, to listen to German Podcasts, music and other audio material, and to watch German television and films.

But to have the written training together with the verbal is naturally best when wanting to learn how to speak German.  In understanding the rules of the language, one can best understand the reasons behind, for example, sentence formation and the pronunciation of words.

Material Aids For Those Who Want To Learn How To Speak German

As already suggested, audio aids are a great help in learning the correct accent with which to speak German.  But the more conventional learning aids are also helpful.  A German dictionary and phrase book are useful tools.

A language book that helps you work through the rudiments of the language is especially helpful to those who have grown accustomed to the type of system used in schools to teach languages.  For those not able to afford special books, tapes or CD’s on the German language, there are also free online learning aids and programmes.
